Machine tools
In the manufacturing of workpieces, whether on CNC machines or conventional machine tools with manual control, there are often tolerances of just a few micrometers that must be complied with. Therefore, it is essential that the drive systems implemented here ensure the highest precision. In both the spindle drives of the tools and the linear drives that position the tool and workpiece in relation to each other, timing belts are often used to guarantee efficient operation while requiring little maintenance.
Thanks to a wide range of materials for belt bodies and tension cords as well as a large number of different coating materials, we are able to meet our customers' specific requirements. In this context, Alphabelt is particularly focusing on special timing belts that are optimally suited to the respective drive tasks.
Alphabelt timing belts for driving tool spindles
For a precise and repeatable spindle drive even at high powers and speeds, changing temperatures and abrasive substances, every component of the drive belt must be perfectly matched to each other.Belt bodies
The belt body provides high temperature resistance and good chemical resistance of the timing belt, for example when in contact with coolants or lubricants. It may be made of PU or neoprene, but for high-performance drives there are increasingly also HNBR elastomers being used. These are somewhat softer and absorb vibrations better, which results overall in smoother running and lower noise. In addition, suitable belt materials must have good flexural properties to ensure a long service life of the belt.Tension cords
To minimize the maintenance effort of the drive and to provide consistent precision even under high acceleration or deceleration forces, the used belts should have the best length stability possible. This task is assumed by the tension cords, which are usually made of aramid, kevlar, steel or carbon fibers.Teeth coating
To protect the teeth against abrasion and wear, various coatings are available. These include, for example, nylon fabrics that reduce friction and at the same time decrease noise emissions, or coatings made of PVC that are resistant to abrasion and oil.Alphabelt timing belts for linear drives in machine tools
Linear drives convert the rotation of servomotors into linear movements, which are used in machine tools to position the tool or the workpiece. Similar to belts used for spindle drives, belts for linear drives must also remain as length-stable as possible under difficult conditions. This is to guarantee both extremely precise positioning in the range of thousandths of a millimeter as well as reliable repeatability. Wear resistance and high flexibility of the belt material also extend the service life of the belts and increase the efficiency of the machine. In consultation with our customers and after a precise analysis of the operating conditions, we develop tailor-made timing belts for ambitious positioning tasks.
