Extrusion

Pipes, rods, wires, cables, hoses, roof gutters, baseboards, window profiles, sheets and films - the list of products that can be manufactured on extrusion lines is long. Correspondingly versatile must also be the haul-off belts that are responsible for smooth onward transport.

Haul-off belts by Alphabelt are specially designed for the extreme requirements in extrusion lines. The combination of proven manufacturing processes, belt materials, cords, coatings and profiles result in high-performance belts that ensure precise haul-off and long durability. In order to achieve an optimal result, it's a matter of course for us to manufacture customer-specific products, special designs and one-offs.

Examples of Alphabelt products in extrusion lines

Caterpillar haul-off timing belt

Belts for caterpillar belt haul-offs provide for a smooth and deformation-free transport of the material to be processed. This mostly involves round profiles such as tubes, pipes, round rods and cables. The contour of the caterpillar segments is individually adapted to the shape of the material to be extracted so that it is enclosed and the contact forces are evenly distributed over the surface. Gaps up to 2.5 mm between the individual segments are feasible. The basic belt is usually made of neoprene, but other belt materials are also possible.

Endless belts and cords

In order to be able to withstand the extreme tensile and contact forces on haul-off systems in the long term, belts with a high degree of homogeneity are preferably used. Both the belt material and the tension cords should be manufactured endless, i.e. without a joint. This eliminates potential weak points. Endless flex timing belts are often used for Alphabelt's haul-off belts. Endless woven polyester tension cords, 3-ply wound, overlapping conveyor belts or endless tension cords made of Kevlar or steel guarantee an increased service life combined with the best running properties.

Coatings

Coatings made of PVC or PU, and in special cases also silicone or rubber, ensure reliable, slip-free haul-off. PU and PVC coatings are available from Alphabelt in different Shore hardnesses, are abrasion-resistant and oil-resistant, and can be applied to the backing material without joints. Both the back and the tooth side can be coated, regardless of whether the belt is a poly-V or a timing belt.

Haul-off profiles

Grooves milled into the back surface of the haul-off belts offer several advantages at once: They guide the material to be hauled off precisely in the track, increase the contact area between belt and material to be processed, and enable gentler haul-off due to the increased friction, since the contact pressure can be reduced while the haul-off force remains the same. Especially with very smooth and pressure-sensitive extrusion profiles, this ensures higher dimensional accuracy. Depending on the part geometry, the grooves can be milled in U-shaped, V-shaped and rectangular designs.

Different profiles of the basic belt

Careful selection of the geometry on the running side is also important. Depending upon the application, Alphabelt recommends different basic belts. Flat belts tend to be used in smaller haul-off units, where smooth running, small bending radii and cost-effective solutions are required. Timing belts score particularly well with their positive drive geometry and are used on medium-sized haul-off units. Poly-V belts are used wherever high drive power and maximum tracking accuracy are required. According to the required haul-off force and abrasion resistance, Alphabelt has suitable coatings available for all basic belt shapes.
