Timing belts with seamless silicone coating

Novel manufacturing process enables silicone coating without joints

Timing belts with seamless silicone coating

Silicone is a long-established coating material for timing and conveyor belts: It is, among other things, resistant to high temperatures, anti-adhesive, very elastic and offers excellent aging resistance. Belts coated in this way can therefore be used, for example, for the gentle transport of hot parts. Thanks to their good grip properties, silicone coatings are also used for conveying paper, steel and glass. In addition, silicone is available in FDA compliant grades and is thus suitable for tasks in the food industry. Novel manufacturing process enables silicone coating without joints So far, silicone coatings have mostly been glued onto the base belt. Here, one of the problems was the adhesive bond, which has a lower heat resistance than the silicone coating and thus poses a weak point. In operation, the coating could therefore peel off over time. Another problem occurred at the point where the coating joined, which also had a negative effect on the service life of the belt.

Novel manufacturing process enables silicone coating without joints

A novel manufacturing process now enables silicone coatings to be applied to the base belt without joints. Here, the coating is no longer glued on, but applied seamlessly. Potential weak points such as splices and adhesive joints are therefore completely eliminated. Gradual peeling of the coating is prevented reliably. Novel manufacturing process enables silicone coating without joints Special care is required during production, as the coating material is slowly squeegeed onto the substrate in liquid form. Air pockets must be absolutely avoided. Due to the increased effort, the production times are somewhat longer. The delivery time is currently approx. 5 to 6 weeks. Belts with seamless silicone coating are characterized by a considerably longer service life and thus differ significantly from previously available products.

Numerous variants available

The silicone used for the new manufacturing process has a hardness of 30 Shore A. It can be applied up to a thickness of 10 mm and a width of up to 300 mm without joints. Both neoprene and PU are used as base materials. Timing belts with seamless silicone coating are already available in a wide range of dimensions and tooth systems with tension cords made of steel or aramid. To meet various transport tasks, the coating is optionally available with a smooth surface, punched or with milled pockets. Other designs are also feasible on request by means of customized production.

Different colors at disposal

On request, the seamless silicone coating is available in different colors, which is advantageous for use in scanning systems, for example. The colors are identified by the corresponding RAL code and can be selected from a table. Depending on the chosen color, the coating is either opaque or translucent. If required, a sample can be manufactured to determine the color.

The product features at a glance:

Applications

Timing belts with seamless silicone coating can basically be used wherever previously belts with conventionally manufactured silicone coating had been applied. This includes, for example, tasks in the food and hygiene industry, in scanning systems, in the transport of hot goods, in the conveying of adhesive products, including in labeling systems, and in film transport in the packaging industry.

More efficient plants by extended service life

Altogether, the considerably longer service life of the belts coated without joints results in more effective operation and thus in an upgrading of the plant, as maintenance and repair work is much less frequent and shorter.
